In the past, there have been two major groups of people who have been interested in aerial photography. The first are those people that are interested in the art of taking pictures from the air. The second is those people who rely on the information from aerial photos to assist them in their work.

However, times are changing and as they do, the average person is getting increasingly interested in aerial photography. One of the ways that we can see this shift taking place is by taking a closer look at the way that Google has used this type of tool to create maps for the average person to see.

Take a look at a site on Google Earth and you’ll be able to see aerial maps, satellite imagery and other photographic images taken from the sky. This is the kind of stuff that only specialized groups of people were viewing in the past and now you can easily access it on your computer.

Of course, there will still remain areas of specialty related to these fields. The average person isn’t going to get in to photogrammetry and other detailed aspects of aerial photos.

But the fact that we can all have access to this type of imagery reveals that a shift is taking place in society. More people now have an easier time accessing specialized knowledge which means that our collective knowledge is stronger than ever before.
