Why I Love Online Education

I’ve heard people say they don’t online classes because you miss out on the "classroom experience."  But you know, in 3 1/2 years of college, there were only a few on-campus classes I took where I benefitted from actually being there.

My online learning experience, on the other hand, was heavenly.  I like to learn by reading, not to mention I’m a fairly independent learner, so online classes — without all that lecturing, student-to-student interaction, etc. — were perfect for me.  I’m also a bonafide night owl, and online classes definitely helped me plan my schedule so that I could study at night and be sure to schedule my on-campus classes for late mornings and afternoons.

As much as I loved online learning, it should probably be surprise at all that most of my work is now done online, too — not to mention I’m in even more of an independent position than ever.  I spent about 10 months in a technical writing job before quitting "cold turkey" to freelance full-time.  After nearly 3 years of being my own boss and doing most of my work over the Internet, I love it more than ever!

In fact, I love all the online stuff so much that I’ve considered getting my master’s degree online.  I would probably either get my degree in professional writing, marketing, or some other subject that would benefit the success of my business.  Getting my marketing degree online might make the most sense right now, because most of what I do is marketing writing, but I’m also considering focusing more on my writing in the hopes that eventually I’ll be writing more of the things I really I want to be!
