Dealing with Rejection

There are a lot of really good culinary schools out there to choose from. For instance, both Boston Culinary Arts and Western Culinary School are known for providing high quality culinary education.
Unfortunately, one of the toughest parts of applying for schools is overcoming the fear of rejection. But a little while back, NPR ran an inspiring story about a bunch of high school students that came up with a good way to overcome the sting of rejection: They started posting their rejection letters on a Wall of Shame, in a practice that ended up being pretty therapeutic for many of them.
The key to dealing with rejection is doing something to help you come to terms with it, to help take the sting out of it. As a writer, I’ve learned to NOT keep rejection letters. I make a note of where I’ve submitted stories and on what date I received the rejection letter, and then I toss the letters. Usually they’re form letters, so it’s no big loss, anyway — though I do keep any personalized notes I receive from editors.
