Shredding Paper is Boring

A few years ago, I worked for a rich family in Cherry Creek, one of the well-known upper class neighborhoods in Denver.  This family was large (five kids) and always on the go, so as a result they were always giving me these really mundane, really boring, household jobs to do.  One such job was to shred a huge stack of documents for them.

Now when I say that this stack of documents was huge, I really mean huge.  It was probably several inches tall, and I had to shred all of it with one of those dinky, older home paper shredders.  As I remember, it took me several days — particularly since about halfway through, the motor overheated and I had to wait for it to cool before I could continue.

After that experience, I am a firm believer in heavy duty shredders.  If you shred a large quantity of papers at a time, you really need something that can handle more than a few papers at once — and can go pretty quickly.  It’s boring to stand over a shredder and feed it paper for an hour (or more!).  And with most standard home shredders, if you forget and try to feed them too much paper at once, they jam!

If you need a shredder for business purposes, you might even want to look into industrial paper shredders.  Businesses typically throw away more sensitive documents and information, so they need a shredder that can handle a higher volume.
